1Thank them for one specific thing, today.
CoreGratitude60 secondsQur'an 14:7

Not "thanks for everything." Pick one thing from the last two days and name it exactly: "Thank you for taking the bins out when I was on that call. I noticed." Specific, small, recent.

Where it sits. Gottman method, The Positive Perspective

Islamic evidence

The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever is not grateful to people is not grateful to Allah. Gratitude to the person in front of you is not separate from gratitude to the One who placed them there. It is the form it takes.

Remember that He promised, “If you are thankful, I will give you more, but if you are thankless, My punishment is terrible indeed.” ’

Qur'an 14:7

Narrated Abu Hurayrah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: He who does not thank the people is not thankful to Allah

Sunan Abi Dawud 4811

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said :"Whoever is not grateful to the people, he is not grateful to Allah

Jami' at-Tirmidhi 1954

Psychological evidence

The thanks is the intervention, not the feeling behind it. Say it out loud.

Gratitude promotes maintenance behaviour and responsiveness.

Review detail

General gratitude is pleasant and slides off. Specific gratitude does something else. It proves you were paying attention, which is the part that actually registers. The evidence points the same way: expressed appreciation predicts stronger relationships partly because expressing it changes how the other person sees you, not only how they feel. The thing to reach for is usually invisible labour: the task so routinely done that it has stopped being noticed. Name that one.

Why it works. Expressed gratitude functions to identify and bind us to responsive partners. Crucially, the effect runs through expression. Felt but unspoken appreciation does far less work.
