What a first appointment is actually like

Nobody makes you do anything in the first meeting and nobody shouts at you. Somebody asks what has been happening, how often, what it looks like when it happens, and what it has cost you so far. It takes about an hour and most of it is you talking.

The hardest part is usually the first sentence, so have it ready. I lose my temper and it is affecting my family, and I want help with it, is a complete and sufficient sentence.

If your faith matters to how you want this handled, say so at the first meeting. Working alongside somebody religiously knowledgeable is better practice than working around them, so that what is genuinely required of you in the religion never gets mistaken for a symptom.
