An example
Idris is thirty four and he is still going to work, which is why nobody has noticed.
He gets up, he sits in the car for eleven minutes before going in, and he gets through the day. He has not cooked in two months. The washing is done when there is nothing left to wear. He has stopped replying to the family group, and three people have stopped messaging him.
He would not use the word depressed. What he says, when his wife asks, is that he has become lazy and ungrateful and that he needs to sort himself out.
That sentence is not a description of Idris. It is a symptom, doing what this illness does, which is speak in the first person.
