What that report is doing

Read it again, because it is easy to skim past and it is doing something very large.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, is not condemning a doubter there. He is placing doubt inside the prophetic experience, using Ibrahim as the example, and putting himself alongside. Whatever the exact meaning turns out to be, and the commentators discuss it, the one thing it cannot be is a text saying that a believer never has this.

Compare that with what you have been telling yourself. Most people in your position are running on a private rule that a real Muslim does not have these thoughts. That rule is not in the material. It was assembled out of what people around you seemed to be like from outside.
