Three things that look like ordinary advice and are not

This is the topic where the disguise is most complete, so here they are by name.

Write down the worst version of the thought and read it back to yourself. That is a scripted exposure exercise. It appears in a great deal of well meaning self help and it is the most dangerous item on this list. It is not in this course and you should not build it for yourself.

Deliberately let the thought stay without answering it and see what happens. Also exposure. So is any version with a number attached to it, a hierarchy, a distress rating, or a length of time to hold out for. If it has a number and a discomfort in it, that is what it is.

And this one is genuinely correct fiqh, which is what makes it difficult. Certainty is not removed by doubt, and a prayer that has been completed is not prayed again. That is the ruling and we are stating it as the ruling, because you are entitled to know it. It is also, in function, exactly what response prevention does. So we state it and we build nothing on it, no exercise and no plan. The companion course, When doubt keeps coming back, covers the worship side of this properly.
