The rereading question
Answer it in your head first.
Someone has read the same chapter four times, highlighted it twice, and feels they know it well. Why might they still lose marks on it, and what would tell them the truth earlier?
Because recognising material while it is in front of you is a different act from producing it from nothing, and rereading only ever practises the first one. The fluent feeling comes from familiarity and it is not a measure of what you could retrieve. Closing the book and writing down what they can actually remember, before looking, would show them the gap while there is still time to do something about it.
