Carrying a lossStep 5 of 9

The two ways of getting stuck

If both sides are necessary, then there are two ways to get stuck, and they look nothing like each other.

One is staying in the loss and letting nothing else in. The room kept as it was. No new tasks. No going back. Every ordinary pleasure refused because it feels like a disloyalty.

The other is staying in restoration and never letting the loss land. Straight back to work on the Monday. Busy from six in the morning. Cheerful, efficient, and unable to be alone in a quiet house. That one gets praised, which is why it is harder to notice.

Neither is a moral failing and neither is a diagnosis. They are two directions of the same problem, which is that the crossing has stopped.
