The report is sound and it is not a comfortable one. What has gone wrong is that it is quoted on its own. In the same body of material, the report about taking people's money makes intention the line rather than the existence of the debt, and the Qur'an instructs the creditor to postpone in hardship and commends remitting the debt entirely. Sent alone, the first report increases the fear that keeps someone from opening the post. Read alongside the rest, it does not.
