Hafsa is eleven weeks in and has not had four hours in a row since the birth.
Her husband keeps saying to wake him if she needs anything, which sounds generous and has never once happened, because at three in the morning she is already up and it is easier not to.
They change it to something specific instead. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, he takes the baby from ten until two in the next room. Her phone charges in the kitchen. They agree he wakes her only if he cannot settle the baby after twenty minutes.
The first Tuesday she lies awake for forty minutes listening anyway. The second Tuesday she sleeps for three and a half hours.
She does not describe herself as better. She describes Wednesday as a day where she did not cry in the shower, which was not true of any Wednesday for two months.
