Which one is which
Answer it in your head first, then look.
A woman is nine days after her birth. She has cried every day since day four, she feels flooded and short tempered, and she is sleeping when the baby sleeps. Nothing frightening is happening. Which of the three does that look most like, and what is the one thing that would change the answer?
It looks most like the first one, the stretch that usually starts in the first week and settles on its own within about a fortnight. The thing that would change the answer is time. If she is still like this at three weeks, and it is getting in the way of ordinary life, that is no longer the first state and it is worth a conversation with her midwife, health visitor or doctor. Nothing here decides it for her, and nobody can tell which it is from a paragraph.
