Forty days of rest was never meant to be forty days alone in a room with the curtains shut. The concession is about ritual obligation. It is not an instruction to cut a new mother off from adult company, and isolation is one of the reliable things that makes this worse.

If people are keeping visitors away to be kind, tell them which two people you would actually like to see.

The other door is the one in your hand. Everybody else's first year is being posted after it has been edited, and you are comparing your Tuesday at four in the morning against it. That comparison has never once made anyone feel better and it is not going to start.
