A check

Which of these is the best reason that a list of small rules can add up to something serious?

Because each rule is unreasonable on its ownBecause the rules accumulate and remove a person's freedom, which is the actual injuryBecause rules always lead to violence eventuallyBecause a person who follows rules is weak
Not quite

The individual items are designed to sound reasonable, and often they are the kind of thing a caring person might say once. What matters is what the whole set does over time, which is to shrink where you can go, who you can speak to, what you can reach and what you can decide. That shrinking is the harm itself. It does not need to become violent to have already taken something from you, and following the rules is not weakness, it is what a person does when refusing has a cost.
