A doctor, and the record that outlasts the memory

A doctor is worth knowing about for a reason people do not expect. A doctor writes things down, and that record has a date on it.

Months or years later, in a court, in a custody case, in an immigration application, a dated medical note is often the only thing that exists. You do not have to name anyone or make a complaint to be seen. You can go about an injury, or about not sleeping, and answer honestly if you are asked how it happened.

Ask to be seen alone. A good clinician will make that happen without making it a scene, and in many places asking on your own is routine.
