Perceived Pathways of Change in an Interpersonal Violence Intervention for Mothers: The Importance of Self-Compassion.
Interventions to support mothers experiencing interpersonal violence are critical, yet most evaluation research focuses on outcome evaluation, rather than understanding the pathways of change. The goal of the current study was to understand, via mothers' own perspectives, the specific key pathways through which participation in an interpersonal violence intervention resulted in perceptions of change for mothers and their children. The participants (N = 43, 18-43 years old) were mothers who attended and completed a 6-8-week interpersonal violence intervention within 11 community organizations across Canada. Approximately 1-2 months following the intervention, participants completed semi-structured interviews or focus groups wherein they were asked open-ended questions about their experiences in the intervention. Using a phenomenological approach, the results indicated that (1) mothers wer…

Development of the self-directed RECEIVE Forgiveness workbook: a Christian-sensitive resource to support experiencing reconciliation with God.
Divine forgiveness is a central concept in many theistic religions, including Christianity, which has a rich and longstanding history of doctrine, spiritual practices, and rituals addressing or reinforcing the idea that God forgives. Providing empirical support for the role that forgiveness from God plays in the lives of Christians, a growing body of literature suggests that divine forgiveness may have important implications for human flourishing. Practical resources that are biblically aligned and developed through interdisciplinary collaboration among humanists (e.g., theologians) and social scientists (e.g., psychologists) could complement traditional religious customs and equip healthcare professionals with spiritually integrated tools for serving self-identifying Christian clients. To this end, we developed the RECEIVE Forgiveness workbook as a brief, self-directed workbook interven…

The Receding Specialty of Infectious Diseases and Implications for U.S. Healthcare.
Infectious diseases physicians serve on the frontline of disease prevention, outbreak mitigation, and direct patient care across the healthcare continuum. To reverse troubling trends in the ID workforce, policymakers, healthcare administrators, and the public must understand the essential societal role of ID physicians. Solutions include adopting new compensation models, loan forgiveness for medical specialties where demand exceeds supply, reformed immigration policies for staffing medically underserved areas and reinvestment in public health. A receding ID workforce will result in delayed ID specialty care, worse clinical outcomes, worsening antibiotic resistance, increased healthcare costs, decreased pandemic preparedness, and an overall sicker nation.

Nursing strategies for implementing psychosocial interventions to address violence behavior in schizophrenia: a scoping review.
Background: Psychosocial interventions are crucial in managing violent behavior problems in people with schizophrenia, considering the high risk to self and others. Although drug therapy plays an important role, psychotherapy approaches offer holistic solutions in reducing violent behavior that is complex and often resistant to treatment. Therefore, a comprehensive review of the literature on these psychosocial interventions is necessary to evaluate the various approaches that have been developed.
Objective: This study aims to map and synthesize existing literature on psychosocial interventions designed to reduce violent behavior in patients with schizophrenia.
Methods: A scoping review was carried out by searching for articles from the CINAHL, PubMed, and Scopus databases using the keywords "schizophrenia", "nursing". "psychosocial intervention", and "violence". Inclusion criteria inclu…

Yang HY (2025)MEDLINE-indexed journal, not yet read by usHu li za zhi The journal of nursing [Promoting Self-Care and Resilience in High-Stress Nursing Workplaces].
Staffing shortages and excessive workloads are issues faced by nurses worldwide. In the United States, 62% of nurses experience burnout, with burnout rates reaching as high as 75% among nurses under the age of 25 (American Nurses Association, 2024). In Taiwan, recent nursing staff shortages have led to excessive workloads and exhaustion among clinical nurses, presenting a critical challenge for nursing administration and education. Occupational burnout not only affects psychological well-being but also negatively influences clinical decision-making and the ability to cope with stress (Gao et al., 2023). Self-care refers to the attention and care given to one's physical and mental health. Effective self-care involves regularly implementing strategies to prevent stress and anxiety while enhancing overall health and well-being (Kwon, 2023). Resilience is generally defined as a dynamic adapt…

Engaging in moral learning: veterans' perspectives on how the moral dimensions of moral injury are addressed in one-on-one meetings with Dutch military chaplains.
Introduction: There is an increasing attention for the role of military chaplains (MCs) in supporting veterans with moral injury. However, research into how veterans experience the support of MCs remains scarce. Moreover, no studies to date have explored this question in a Dutch contex, while this is relevant as it can offer insight into what forms of care are helpful in predominantly secular societies.
Methods: This article presents a study from the Netherlands, involving 12 veterans. Using a longitudinal qualitative approach, we explored how the one-on-one conversations with MCs unfold over time.
Results: Our study shows that three types of moral questions underly experiences of moral injury. Veterans see the conversations with MCs as an opportunity to exchange thoughts and perspectives concerning these ongoing moral struggles, a process that we conceptualize as 'moral learning'. Over …

The purpose of this proof-of-concept study was to examine the outcomes and acceptability of a spiritual intervention for moral injury led by veteran peers in a Veteran Service Organization (VSO), called "Heroes to Heroes." From baseline to 1-year follow-up, 101 veterans who participated in the intervention completed the evaluation surveys at four time points assessing psychological outcomes (moral injury, posttraumatic stress disorder [PTSD] symptoms, and life satisfaction), spiritual outcomes (spiritual struggles and spiritual transcendence), and their perceived helpfulness of the program. In addition, we conducted four focus groups with six to eight alumni to more fully understand veterans' views and experiences of the program. Focusing on the longitudinal surveys, latent growth modeling analyses revealed veterans generally improved across the psychological and spiritual outcomes in th…

Introduction: Difficulty controlling anger is a common postdeployment problem in military personnel. Chronic and unregulated anger can lead to inappropriate aggression and is associated with behavioral health, legal, employment, and relationship problems for military service members. Military-related betrayal (e.g., military sexual assault, insider attacks) is experienced by over a quarter of combat service members and is associated with chronic anger and aggression. The high level of physical risk involved in military deployments make interconnectedness and trust in the military organization of utmost importance for survival during missions. While this has many protective functions, it also creates a vulnerability to experiencing military-related betrayal. Betrayal is related to chronic anger and aggression. Individuals with betrayal-related injuries express overgeneralized anger, irrit…

Simpler, shorter, safer and more effective treatments for tuberculosis that are easily accessible to all people with tuberculosis are desperately needed. In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed target regimen profiles for the treatment of tuberculosis to make drug developers aware of both the important features of treatment regimens, and patient and programmatic needs at the country level. In view of recent ground-breaking advances in tuberculosis treatment, WHO has revised and updated these regimen profiles. We used a similar process as for the 2016 profiles, including a baseline treatment landscape analysis, an initial stakeholder survey, modelling studies estimating the impact and cost-effectiveness of novel tuberculosis treatment regimens, and an extensive stakeholder consultation. We developed target regimen profiles for the treatment of rifampicin-susceptible and rif…
