The effect of a community-based self-help multimodal behavioral intervention in Korean American seniors with high blood pressure.: Background: Great strides have been made in improving heart health in the United States during the last 2 decades, yet these strides have not encompassed many ethnic minority populations. There are significant health disparity gaps stemming from both a paucity of valid research and a lack of culturally sensitive interventions. In particular, many Korean Americans with chronic illnesses encounter difficulty navigating the healthcare system because of limited health literacy. Methods: The effect o
Workplace Interventions Targeting Mental Health Literacy, Stigma, Help-Seeking, and Help-Offering in Male-Dominated Industries: A Systematic Review.: Mental ill-health and suicide represent a significant proportion of the burden of global disease among men. Connell's relational theory of masculinities provides a useful framework to explore how mental health literacy, mental health stigma, and delayed help-seeking and help-offering behaviors are associated with mental ill-health among men, particularly within male-dominated industries. To address the high incidences of mental ill-health in male-dominated industries, several workplace intervent
Development and psychometric validation of a novel health literacy scale for family caregivers of preschool children.
Background: Health literacy among family caregivers has been found to be strongly correlated with health exposures and outcomes for their children. Accurate assessment of their health literacy contributes to improving child health outcomes. Given the limited evidence on health literacy measures for family caregivers, the study aimed to develop and validate a novel Health Literacy Scale for Family Caregivers of Preschool Children (HLSFC). Methods: The HLSFC was developed in 4 phases: 1) using Nutbeam's conceptual framework of health literacy as a guide to clarify the content to be measured; 2) generating an item pool; 3) providing feedback on the initial items; 4) psychometric analyses. A cross-sectional survey of 443 family caregivers of preschoolers was conducted in Northwest China. Construct validity was assessed using exploratory factor analysis (n = 213) and confirmatory factor analy…

The MENA-MHPI Model: A culturally adapted, multi-tiered framework for mental health promotion in the Middle East: Targeted narrative review with conceptual model proposal.
Mental health challenges in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have intensified due to conflict, displacement, and systemic gaps in service delivery. Existing models remain underfunded, centralized, and often misaligned with cultural and religious contexts, limiting their scalability and sustainability. This targeted narrative review synthesizes current evidence on mental health promotion in fragile MENA settings and proposes the MENA-MHPI Model-a novel, three-tiered framework that integrates (1) culturally adapted mental health literacy, (2) technology-assisted primary care, and (3) community-based psychosocial support. The model emphasizes leveraging existing infrastructures, including schools, mosques, NGOs, and digital platforms, while embedding culturally sensitive approaches such as faith-based counseling and local dialect media campaigns. By combining digital innovation with …

Partner-assisted cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia versus cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia: a randomised controlled trial.
Background: Insomnia is a prevalent sleep disorder associated with significant economic and personal burdens. Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBTI) is considered the gold standard intervention for insomnia and its efficacy has been well demonstrated. However, the core treatment strategies of CBTI require significant behavioural change, which many individuals find challenging. As a result, although CBTI is efficacious, its effectiveness is reduced by modest levels of adherence in typical clinical settings. This is problematic as adherence is essential to attain desired treatment outcomes. Sleep is often a dyadic process, with approximately 60% of Australian adults sharing a bed. Hence, the present study aims to determine whether incorporating bed partners into treatment for insomnia increases treatment adherence and completion. The impact of adherence on symptoms of insomnia w…

Nursing students' death anxiety and fear towards dementia patients.
Objective: This study investigated the relationship between death anxiety (DA) and fear towards patients according to the age and illness of the patient. Methods: A sample of 94 undergraduate nursing students from an Australian university were presented with a hypothetical patient, who varied by age (29 years or 71 years) and illness (arthritis, cancer or dementia). They then completed measures of DA and fear towards the patient. Results: Older patients with dementia were associated with higher DA compared to all other conditions. Greater fear was associated with patients in the dementia target condition. Conclusion: The findings from this study are consistent with terror management theory; specifically, older age and terminal illness are associated with greater DA. Implications are discussed regarding the quality of care provided to older people with dementia.

A comparison of language use in pro- and anti-vaccination comments in response to a high profile Facebook post.
Background: Vaccinations are important for controlling the spread of disease, yet an increasing number of people are distrustful of vaccines, and choose not to (fully) vaccinate themselves and their children. One proposed contributor to this distrust is anti-vaccination misinformation available on the internet, where people search for and discuss health information. The language people use in these discussions can provide insights into views about vaccination. Methods: Following a prominent Facebook post about childhood vaccination, language used by participants in a comment thread was analysed using LIWC (Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count). Percentage of words used across a number of categories was compared between pro-vaccination, anti-vaccination, and unrelated (control) comments. Results: Both pro- and anti-vaccination comments used more risk-related and causation words, as well as f…
