Would any of you wish to have a garden an orchard of date-palms and vines with rivers flowing beneath it for him there is in it all manner of fruit then old age smites him and makes him too weak to profit from it and he has seed but they are weak young children who cannot manage it; then a whirlwind i‘sār are violent winds with fire smites it and it is consumed? so that he loses what he is most in need of and now he and his children have become incapacitated confused without any resources. This is a similitude of how the expenditure of the one expending for show or the one who reproaches after having expended vanishes and how it is of no avail when he will be most in need of it in the Hereafter the interrogative a-yawaddu ‘would any wish’ is intended as a denial. Allah chose Adam, Nuh (Noah), the family of Ibrahim and the family of 'Imran above the nations (33)Offspring, one of the other, and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower (34) The Chosen Ones Among the People of the Earth Allah states that He has chosen these households over the people of the earth. For instance, Allah chose Adam, created him with His Hand and blew life into him. Allah commanded the angels to prostrate before Adam, taught him the names of everything and allowed him to dwell in Paradise, but then sent him down from it out of His wisdom. Allah chose Nuh and made him the first Messenger to the people of the earth, when the people worshipped idols and associated others with Allah in worship. Allah avenged the way Nuh was treated, for he kept calling his people day and night, in public and in secret, for a very long time. However, his calling them only made them shun him more, and

The Relationship between Neighborhood Characteristics and Effective Parenting Behaviors: The Role of Social Support.

Neighborhood characteristics have been linked to healthy behavior, including effective parenting behaviors. This may be partially explained through the neighborhood's relation to parents' access to social support from friends and family. The current study examined associations of neighborhood characteristics with parenting behaviors indirectly through social support. The sample included 614 mothers of 11-12 year old youths enrolled in a health care system in the San Francisco area. Structural equations modeling shows that neighborhood perceptions were related to parenting behaviors, indirectly through social support, while archival census neighborhood indicators were unrelated to social support and parenting. Perceived neighborhood social cohesion and control were related to greater social support, which was related to more effective parenting style, parent-child communication, and monit

Interpartner conflict and child abuse risk among African American and Latino adolescent parenting couples.

Objective: The goal of this study was to identify links between observed conflict interactions and risk for child abuse and harsh parenting among a multiethnic sample of adolescent mothers (14-19 years) and young fathers (14-24 years). Methods: Prior to childbirth (T1), observation-based relationship data were collected from 154 expectant adolescent couples as well as information about physical aggression between partners. Two years after childbirth (T2), data relevant to harsh disciplinary practices and child abuse-prone attitudes were collected from both young mothers and fathers. Multiple regression analyses were run to examine the correspondence between (a) couples' relationship quality prior to childbirth and (b) subsequent risk for harsh and potentially abusive parenting practices. Results: Findings indicated that interpartner violence prior to childbirth predicted physically punit

Impact of war and forced displacement on children's mental health-multilevel, needs-oriented, and trauma-informed approaches.

The infliction of war and military aggression upon children must be considered a violation of their basic human rights and can have a persistent impact on their physical and mental health and well-being, with long-term consequences for their development. Given the recent events in Ukraine with millions on the flight, this scoping policy editorial aims to help guide mental health support for young victims of war through an overview of the direct and indirect burden of war on child mental health. We highlight multilevel, need-oriented, and trauma-informed approaches to regaining and sustaining outer and inner security after exposure to the trauma of war. The impact of war on children is tremendous and pervasive, with multiple implications, including immediate stress-responses, increased risk for specific mental disorders, distress from forced separation from parents, and fear for personal

Childhood trauma and the enduring consequences of forcibly separating children from parents at the United States border.

Forcible separation and detention of children from parents seeking asylum in the United States has been decried as immoral and halted by court order. Babies and children have been separated and transported to facilities sometimes many miles away. Limited data on forced detention of unaccompanied minors reveal high incidence of posttraumatic stress, anxiety disorders, depression, aggression, and suicidal ideation. These consequences will be magnified in youths forcibly separated from their parents, particularly younger children who depend on attachment bonds for self-regulation and resilience. Studies exploring the neuropsychiatric consequences of traumatic stress have revealed consistent effects of early life stress on brain structure, function and connectivity, and the identification of sensitive periods, which occur throughout childhood when specific regions and pathways are strongly i

Parenting Styles, Coparenting, and Early Child Adjustment in Separated Families with Child Physical Custody Processes Ongoing in Family Court.

Coparenting conflict and triangulation after separation or divorce are associated with poorer child adjustment when parenting gatekeeping and conflict occur. Fewer studies reported psychosocial adjustment of children under three. We explored the effects of authoritarian and permissive parenting styles and negative coparenting on child adjustment in a purpose sample of 207 Portuguese newly separated/divorced parents (50.2% mothers/49.8% fathers) with sole or joint (49.8%/50.2%) physical custody processes ongoing in court. Parents filled out the Parenting Styles Questionnaire-Parents' report, the Coparenting Questionnaire, and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Parenting and coparenting moderations path analysis to predict child adjustment were tested for two groups (2/3-year-old child/>3-year-old-child) and showed a good fit, followed by multigroup path analysis with similariti

Intergenerational Continuity and Discontinuity in Harsh Parenting.

The Family Transitions Project began in 1989 to see how rural families in Iowa were coping with the severe economic downturn in agriculture at that time. In this report we show that cohort members who were treated harshly by their parents tended to emulate these behaviors with their children. However, if they co-parented with a partner who demonstrated a warm and supportive parenting style, intergenerational continuity was disrupted.

Exploring Parental Needs in the Year Following Perinatal Loss.

Purpose: To explore parents' holistic needs in the year after a perinatal loss experience. Study design and method: We used Wagner's Chronic Disease Model viewed through a holistic lens as a theoretical framework for this qualitative descriptive study. Wagner's five domains of chronic care (evidence-based practice, empowerment, collaboration, connection, assessment) and the five aspects of holistic care (physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural) were used as a priori categories and subcategories throughout data analysis. Holistic themes were organized into the domains of the chronic care model to identify participants' supportive needs throughout the progression of the year. Results: Ten women who experienced perinatal loss from miscarriage, stillbirth, termination, and congenital anomalies were interviewed. Participant needs were primarily physical (bleeding, lactation) in t

Fertility Outcomes of Adult Children With Divorced Parents: Evidence From Population Data.

Each year, a substantial proportion of children experience the divorce of their parents. Despite numerous studies examining the consequences of parental divorce across various aspects of children's well-being in childhood, evidence of their family prospects in adulthood is scarce. Using administrative data from the Netherlands that spans three generations, we provide the first evidence based on population data of completed fertility and childlessness of children whose parents divorced. Our results suggest that adult children from divorced families have lower completed fertility and more frequently remain childless than adult children from continuously married families. Our findings support the hypothesis that adult children from divorced families exit marital or cohabiting relationships earlier than adult children from continuously married families, and the shorter duration of these unio

Loss, inflammation, and cognition: Understanding the lifecourse impact of early life parental disruption.

Social and structural determinants of health significantly impact well-being across the lifecourse and contribute to ethnoracial disparities in cognitive aging. Early-life exposure to parental disruption (i.e., death, divorce, or separation), which disproportionately affects ethnoracially diverse children, increases the risk of adverse brain health outcomes. Systemic inflammation, a key biological mechanism linking early stress to cognitive aging, affects neurocognitive pathways. However, little is known about how the relationship between parental disruption, inflammation, and cognition varies by ethnoracial group. This study examines the mediating role of systemic inflammation in the relationship between early-life parental disruption and late-life global cognition among non-Hispanic White (69.11 %), Black (16.45 %), and Hispanic (11.64 %) adults aged 55+ in the Health and Retirement St

The impact of sibling sexual abuse on intrafamilial relationships: A fractured group of related people.

Background: Parents and siblings play central roles in children's healthy development and social relationships across the lifespan. Trauma which occurs as a result of abuse, especially by an immediate family member, such as sibling sexual abuse (SSA) profoundly disrupts psychosocial development and family functioning. Objective: This study aims to explore how parents perceive and describe changes in intrafamilial relationships following disclosure of SSA. Participants: The sample includes 75 participants who identify as having a child who was sexually abused by a sibling, a child who sexually harmed a sibling, or both. Participants contributed to a larger mixed-methods study on family responses to SSA. Methods: Parents provided open-ended reports on past and current family relationships, including dynamics between the involved siblings, uninvolved siblings, and parents. They also reflect

Study protocol to develop bereavement care package for the Indian healthcare system to support parents of stillborn babies.

BACKGROUND: India is estimated to have the largest number of stillbirths globally. Although the health system in India has made significant strides in maternal and newborn care, the bereavement needs of the parents’ experiencing stillbirth have not received attention. As recognising that grief and coping processes are influenced by many socio-cultural contexts, it is critical to comprehend the experiences and unmet needs of bereaved families in India. Therefore, this study aims to develop a culturally appropriate bereavement care package that is integrated within the current maternal health services to support bereaved parents and families across all levels of care. METHODS: Stillbirth for this study is defined as a baby who dies after 28 weeks of gestation before or during the birth. The components will include a scoping review to summarise bereavement practices within healthcare settin

Healthcare worker's views and experiences of factors impacting confidence to provide perinatal bereavement support: a qualitative study in Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Background: Worldwide, around 1.9 million babies are stillborn, and 2.5 million newborns die soon after birth annually, the overwhelming majority occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Perinatal death has devastating impacts for families and communities, but not all parents receive adequate respectful bereavement support. Healthcare workers in LMICs often report that bereavement support is challenging, but few studies have explored factors that impact their confidence to deliver optimal care. Objective: To explore healthcare worker's views and experiences of factors impacting their confidence to provide bereavement support to parents after stillbirth or neonatal death in Malawi and Zimbabwe. Methods: Using qualitative approaches, a purposive sample of healthcare workers in four maternity facilities in Malawi and Zimbabwe was recruited. Guided by the principles of information

Parent-Reported Adverse Childhood Experiences and Food Insecurity Among Children in Non-English-Speaking Households in the United States.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events associated with the risk of food insecurities in the United States (U.S). However, there is a scarcity of studies investigating this association, particularly for children in non-English-speaking households. Therefore, this study examines the association between individual and cumulative ACEs with food insecurity for children in non-English-speaking households in the U.S. Using data extracted from the 2022 National Survey of Children's Health, the weighted sample of 4,677 children aged 0 to 17 was obtained. The dependent variable was binary food insecurity (food secure vs. food insecure). Independent variables included 11 individual ACEs (i.e., economic hardship, parent/guardian divorce, etc.) and cumulative ACEs (0 ACE, 1 ACE, 2 ACEs, and 3 ≥ACEs). Data were analyzed using six sets of multivariate logistic regression

Latent profile analysis of family and school supports among Chinese adolescents in stepfamilies.

Divorce and remarriage rates have increased dramatically in China, and more children live in stepfamilies. There remain valuable opportunities to understand the various family and school assets that support the well-being of Chinese youth amid family structural transitions, such as the transition to stepfamily life. Using latent profile analysis, the current study seeks to identify patterns of youth support using seven family-related variables and two school-related variables as indicators among a sample of Chinese youth (N = 269; Mage$$ {M}_{age} $$  = 14 years; 129 females and 117 males) residing with a parent and stepparent. Four profiles were identified: low support, academic focus/low support, moderate support, and high support. Results further demonstrated that youth in the moderate support profile had significantly better well-being outcomes compared to youth in the low support or

The relationship between parental psychological well-being and preadolescents' social media use.

Although research is extensively exploring adolescent social media usage, little is known about the relationship between parental psychological well-being, perceived family climate and preadolescents' screen time. This study draws on data from a survey conducted in 2024 among 3,044 parents of Italian middle school students. Using a research design based on an interdisciplinary approach, we combined descriptive analyses with logit generalized linear models (logit GLMs) to investigate how socio-demographic characteristics, parental psychological well-being, and perceived family climate influence preadolescents' social media use. The results show that a negative climate, elevated parental psychological distress, and heightened negative emotional intensity are significantly associated with prolonged screen time, regardless of parental education and economic resources. Our findings offer an i

What Are the Important Health and Well-Being Outcome Dimensions for Parent Carers of Disabled Children? A Qualitative Study.

Background: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are used to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, particularly for subjective health states such as well-being. A parent carer is an adult primary caregiver for a child with a disability. Parent carers are at risk of poorer mental and physical health; targeted health promotion interventions are being developed, requiring evaluation. This study aimed to identify the important health and well-being outcomes for parent carers for evaluating parent carer-focused interventions. Methods: We recruited parents of children with special educational needs and disabilities living in England. Participants took part in individual, semi-structured interviews via video in two parts. First, participants were asked open-ended questions about health and well-being; second, there was an elicitation exercise, in which the interviewees were asked to

Reinforcing the humanity in childhood cancer settings: A qualitative feasibility and acceptability study of a tailored compassion-based care intervention for parents.

Purpose: Parents of children with cancer often experience long-term psychological distress. While early adaptive coping is crucial, emotional strain and practical demands can make it difficult to prioritise parental needs. Therefore, we developed and tested a flexible, Compassion-based Psychosocial Care Intervention (CPCI) tailored to parents' needs. This study explored its feasibility and acceptability. Methods: This qualitative study was undertaken within a compassion paradigm, guided by Heidegger's and Gadamer's philosophies. CPCI included the facilitation of compassion and self-compassion (knowledge, tools, and exercises) through an average of seven encounters with a skilled facilitator. Tools and exercises included breathing, brief and longer meditations, loving-kindness, poetry, and journaling (gratitude and diary). The evaluation, based on parents' perspectives, included a pre-pos

Parental Authority and the Weight of Assent: Navigating Moral Dilemmas in Adolescent End of Life Care.

Though the idea of assent emerged in the 1980s and adaptation in paediatrics has become more common practice, adolescent end-of-life care adds a multi-faceted layer of increased complexity to the assent process. In the current era of moral pluralism, medical decisions must account for much more than clinical considerations: they must abide by legal standards of decision-making which usually prioritize parental preferences. In the case of an adolescent at the end of life, there remains much room for improvement when disagreements arise. Conflict abounds between the parent or other legal decision-maker and healthcare team in situations where the parent prefers not to disclose the severity of the adolescent's illness or the healthcare team believes continuing lifesaving therapies are not in the adolescent's best interest. These dilemmas challenge how we solicit adolescents' preferences (ass
