Go with this shirt of mine and cast it upon the face of my father so that he may come to seeing. Joseph said, " Take my shirt to Jacob, for his pain has not ceased from the time he saw the shirt stained with the wolf's blood. The balm will also be my shirt. " When they took the shirt from Egypt, the morning breeze was commanded to take the shirt's scent to Jacob's nostrils so that, before Joseph's messenger could give the good news, he would receive it from the Real's mes- senger and recognize the Real's perfect gentleness and favor toward him. According to the tasting of the recognizers, this is the divine breeze that wanders furtively around the world to the doors of the breasts of the faithful and the tawḤīd-voicers to see where there may be a limpid breast and an empty secret core in which to dwell. Among the people are some who take peers apart from God, loving them as if loving God. And those who have faith are more intense in love for God. If this were the only verse in the whole Qur'an about the faithful and God's friends, their eminence and honor would be complete, for the Lord of the Worlds is saying, “They love Me intensely and more completely than the unbelievers love their objects of worship.” Do you not see that every once in a while the unbelievers set up another idol and take up another object of worship. Like poor people, they are content with something carved of wood. Then, when they can, they take down the wooden one and make another from silver or gold. If their love for their object of wor- ship is real, why do they turn away from it toward another? They say that a man met a woman recognizer, and her beauty exercised its influence over his heart. Yet there be people who take to themselves compeers idols besides God that is other than God loving them by magnifying them and being subservient to them as God is loved that is as their love of Him; but those who believe love God more ardently than those who love their compeers because the former never reject God whereas the latter when faced with hardship soon abandon those compeers for God; If he if you O Muhammad (s) were to see those who did evil by taking to themselves compeers when idh here denotes idhā they see read either as active yarawna ‘they see’ or passive yurawna ‘they are made to see’ the chastisement you would see a grave sight that this is because the might the power and the vanquishing altogether a circumstantial qualifier belongs to God and that God is terrible in chastisement according to one reading the person listening to the verse governs the verb yarā ‘he sees’ a

The COVID-19 pandemic and physical activity during intermittent fasting, is it safe? A call for action.

Intermittent fasting (IF) has recently gained popularity, and has been used for centuries in many religious practices. The Ramadan fasting is a mandatory form of IF practiced by millions of healthy adult Muslims globally for a whole lunar month every year. In Islam, the "Sunna" also encourages Muslims to practice IF all along the year (e.g.; two days a week). The 2019-Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in the context of Ramadan has raised the question whether fasting is safe practice during the COVID-19 pandemic health crisis, and what would be the healthy lifestyle behaviors while fasting that would minimize the risk of infection. As COVID-19 lacks a specific therapy, IF and physical activity could help promote human immunity and be part of holistic preventive strategy against COVID-19. In this commentary, the authors focus on this dilemma and provide recommendations to the fasting

Associations of clustered unhealthy lifestyle behaviors with comorbidity of anxiety and depression among adolescents.

BACKGROUND: A variety of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors (ULBs) in adolescence often exist in the form of “clustering”, and anxiety and depression often appear as comorbidities. We aimed to explore the prospective relationship between the clustered unhealthy lifestyle behaviors and comorbidity of anxiety and depression in adolescents. METHODS: Data were collected from the Chinese Adolescent Health Surveillance and Cohort Study with a sample of 6 656 adolescents. LCA was used to identify clustering patterns of multiple unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Anxiety and depression symptoms were evaluated by GAD-7 and PHQ-9. Multivariate logistic regression model was established to analyze the association between the clustering patterns and clustering quantity of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors and the comorbidity of anxiety and depression symptoms. RESULTS: Multivariate logistic regression results sho

Supporting the health of working women in midlife: co-designing and testing the acceptability of a digital exercise programme.

BACKGROUND: Women in midlife (WiML) report a range of physical and psychological challenges, including the transition to perimenopause and menopause. Combined effects of work and life stressors alongside menopause symptoms in working women are reported to increase absenteeism, reduce productivity and work satisfaction and may result in women exiting the labour market earlier than intended. The aim of this study was to co-design and test a novel exercise programme delivered via smartphone app for working women in midlife. The findings aim to inform targeted support to facilitate exercise for working women in midlife, that could be offered virtually and at scale. METHODS: A two-phase process was used to co-design and test a digital exercise programme for WiML, to be delivered via smartphone app. In phase one, participants (n = 12) joined four co-design workshops where collected data was ma

Protecting episodic memory after sleep loss: Similar benefits of exercise and naps via distinct neural contributions.

Sleep loss is a public health concern requiring widely accessible cost-effective interventions to counteract the cognitive and brain health impairments caused by it. Sleep loss impairs the brain's capacity to form new episodic memories, which is critical for everyday cognition, future planning, and decision-making. In this study, we compared the protective effect of a 20-min exercise and a 90-min nap against a no-intervention control condition on the capacity to encode episodic memory after 30 h of uninterrupted wakefulness and examined underlying neural mechanisms using electroencephalography. Both exercise and nap preserved episodic memory after sleep loss, with an average of 22% higher memory performance than the control condition. Electroencephalography revealed distinct neural mechanisms within the intervention groups, which significantly contributed to memory performance. After nap

Associations between daily wellness behaviours and outcomes among medical students: A longitudinal nightly survey study.

Background: Previous research on medical student wellbeing has examined single wellness-related behaviours in isolation and relied on cross-sectional or pre-post surveys. The objective of this study was to use daily, app-based surveys to examine which wellness behaviours have the strongest associations with positive wellbeing in a medical student sample. Methods: A total of 213 medical students willing to participate were enrolled in this study during summer 2021. Participants completed nightly surveys on a novel smartphone app, which assessed eight wellness-related indicators (e.g., social interaction, sleep, exercise, nutrition) and four wellbeing outcomes (mood, focus, stress, overall wellbeing). Both same-day and next-day associations between indicators and outcomes were assessed. Results: Of the 213 participants enrolled, 116 completed more than 50% of nightly surveys, providing 704

Effects of Screen-Based Leisure Time on 24 Subsequent Health and Wellbeing Outcomes: A Longitudinal Outcome-Wide Analysis.

Background: Previous research has shown that screen-based leisure time is related to physical and mental health, relationships, and prosocial behaviors. However, it remains unclear whether screen-based leisure time causally affects wellbeing, as previous studies have relied on cross-sectional data, focused on one type of media use (e.g., social media, video games, or internet), or assessed a narrow set of outcomes. Method: We used three waves (2016, 2017, 2019) of national longitudinal data from the New Zealand Attitudes and Values Study to investigate the effects of screen-based leisure time on 24 parameters of wellbeing (n = 11,085). We operationalized screen-based leisure as the sum of time spent browsing the internet, using social media, watching/reading the news, watching videos, and playing video games. We followed the outcome-wide analytic design for observational data by performi

The impact of maladaptive perfectionism on college students' bedtime procrastination: The chain mediating effects of nomophobia and physical exercise.

Objective: This study aims to explore the mechanisms by which maladaptive perfectionism influences bedtime procrastination in college students and to analyze the chain-mediating roles of nomophobia and physical exercise. Methods: Questionnaires were administered to 486 university students using the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Bedtime Procrastination Behaviour Scale, Nomophobia Scale and Physical Exercise Rating Scale. Results: The bias-corrected nonparametric percentile Bootstrap method was used to test the mediating effect. The direct effect of maladaptive perfectionism on college students' bedtime procrastination is significant (effect = 0.126). Nomophobia significantly mediated the relationship (effect = 0.409), as did physical exercise (effect = 0.032). The chained mediation effect of nomophobia and physical exercise was significant (effect = 0.033), and all the above path

The effect and mechanism of physical exercise on ego depletion in college students.

Background: Amid rising academic pressures and heightened job market demands, college students increasingly experience mental health challenges. Aims: This study explores how physical exercise affects ego depletion among college students, using the self-control resource model to understand the underlying processes. Methods: The study included two parts. First, we surveyed 1032 college students (average age: 20.29 years; 592 males, 440 females) to examine the relationships among negative life events, self-control, physical exercise, and ego depletion. In the second part, 104 students (average age: 19.89 years; 54 males, 50 females) participated in a four-week exercise intervention. They completed three 18-minute high-intensity exercise sessions per week, totaling 12 sessions, to assess changes in self-control and ego depletion. Results: The survey results showed that negative life events

Who is your Fitspiration? An Exploration of Strong and Weak Ties with Emotions, Body Satisfaction, and the Theory of Planned Behavior.

Physical inactivity has become an increasingly important concern for public health. "Fitspiration" social media posts may influence attitudes and intentions toward exercising. An online survey (N = 485) was conducted to examine the potential for fitspiration content from weak and strong ties to shape user emotions, attitudes, norms and behaviors related to exercising. Guided by the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and social cognitive theory (SCT), the results show that exposure to fitspiration content from both strong ties and weak ties were significant predictors of particular attitudes, norms, intentions, actual exercise frequency. However, our path analyses reveal significant indirect paths between exposure to fitspiration content and outcomes for weak ties through negative emotions (guilt), but only through positive emotions (hope and curiosity) for strong ties. From mechanism to ecosystem: building bridges between ecoimmunology, psychoneuroimmunology and disease ecology.

Historically, the fields of ecoimmunology, psychoneuroimmunology and disease ecology have taken complementary yet disparate theoretical and experimental approaches, despite sharing critical common themes. Researchers in these areas have largely worked independently of one another to understand mechanistic immunological responses, organismal level immune performance, behavioral changes, and host and parasite/disease population dynamics, with few bridges across disciplines. Although efforts to strengthen and expand these bridges have been called for (and occasionally heeded) over the last decade, more integrative studies are only now beginning to emerge, with critical gaps remaining. Here, we briefly discuss the origins of these key fields, and their current state of integration, while highlighting several critical directions that we suggest will strengthen their connections into the futur

Social isolation, physical inactivity and inadequate diet among European middle-aged and older adults.

Background: Social isolation is a growing public health concern for older adults, as it has been associated with poor health and premature mortality. On the other hand, physical inactivity and an inadequate diet are important health risk behaviours associated with physical and mental health problems. Considering that there is no research examining the possible relationship between social isolation and the above mentioned health risk behaviours of European middle-aged and older adults, this cross-sectional study aims to contribute to filling this gap. Methods: We used data from the SHARE project (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe), wave 6 (2015), release 7.0.0 (N = 67,173 individuals from 17 European countries plus Israel). Statistical tests for a two-group comparison were carried out to assess the differences between highly socially isolated individuals and low/intermedia

Feasibility and Enjoyment of Exercise Video Games in Older Adults.

Introduction: Several interventions have been developed to enhance social connectedness among older adults. However, little research has demonstrated their performance in a social distancing environment. Exergames are not only beneficial to older adults' physical and cognitive health, but they also allow players to interact with each other at a distance, which can reduce loneliness and increase social connection. The aim of this pilot study was to investigate older adults' perceptions of two commercially available exergames. Methods: Twenty healthy community-dwelling older adults (M age = 73.30, SD = 5.95, range = 65-84 years, 80% women) were recruited in this pilot study between July 2019 and February 2020. They were asked to play two exergames for 10 min each on the Xbox One with Kinect console: Just Dance and Kinect Sports Rivals. After gameplay, they provided both quantitative and qu

Community interventions for improving adult mental health: mapping local policy and practice in England.

Background: Public mental health (PMH) aims to improve wellbeing and prevent poor mental health at the population level. It is a global challenge and a UK priority area for action. Communities play an important role in the provision of PMH interventions. However, the evidence base concerning community-based PMH interventions is limited, meaning it is challenging to compare service provision to need. Without this, the efficient and equitable provision of services is hindered. Here, we sought to map the current range of community-based interventions for improving mental health and wellbeing currently provided in England to inform priority areas for policy and service intervention. Method: We adopted an established mapping exercise methodology, comparing service provision with demographic and deprivation statistics. Five local authority areas of England were selected based on differing demo

A positive psychology intervention to promote health outcomes in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: the PATH proof-of-concept trial.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients often experience deficits in positive psychological well-being (PPWB) due to intensive treatment and follow-up care. Positive psychology interventions (PPIs) that promote PPWB via deliberate and systematic exercises (e.g., writing a gratitude letter) have consistently improved PPWB in medical populations, yet have never been studied in early HSCT recovery. In this single-arm, proof-of-concept study, we assessed the feasibility and acceptability of a novel eight-session, telephone-delivered PPI in early HSCT recovery. A priori, we defined feasibility as >50% of eligible patients enrolling in the study and >50% of participants completing 5/8 sessions, and acceptability as mean ease and utility scores of weekly participant ratings of PP exercises as 7/10. Of 45 eligible patients, 25 (55.6%) enrolled, 20 (80%) completed bas

Body-related self-conscious emotions and reasons for exercise: A latent class analysis.

Body-related self-conscious emotions are important predictors of exercise motivation, yet the association between body-related self-conscious emotions and reasons for exercise has not been explored. Researchers have typically examined body-related emotions (e.g., shame, guilt, pride, embarrassment, envy) in isolation, but they may interact in unique ways to predict reasons for exercise. The present study examined how patterns of body-related emotions were associated with exercise reasons. In an online survey, participants (N = 520; Mage = 35.43 ± 10.09; 57.5 % men) reported their experience of body-related self-conscious emotions and exercise reasons over the past week. Latent class analysis revealed a three-class model of emotions, resulting in a High Emotionality class (i.e., experiencing positive and negative emotions), a Negative Emotions class, and a Pride class. Exploring changes in body image, eating and exercise during the COVID-19 lockdown: A UK survey.

Early reports suggest that lockdown measures associated with the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g., social distancing) are having adverse consequences for people's mental health, including increases in maladaptive eating habits and body dissatisfaction. Certain groups, such as those with pre-existing mental health difficulties, may be especially at risk. The current study explored perceived changes in eating, exercise, and body image during lockdown within the United Kingdom, using an online survey (n = 264). There were large individual differences in perceived changes in eating, exercise, and body image in this period. Women were more likely than men to report increasing struggles with regulating eating, preoccupation with food and worsening body image. Those with a current/past diagnosis of eating disorders reported significantly greater difficulties in regulating eating, increased preoccupation
