Jabir b. Abdullah reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) happened to walk through the bazar coming from the side of 'Aliya and the people were on both his sides. There he found a dead lamb with very short ears. He took hold of his ear and said:Who amongst you would like to have this for a dirham? They said: We do not like to have it even for less than that as it is of no use to us. He said: Do you wish to have it (free of any cost)? They said: By Allah, even if it were alive (we would not have liked to possess that), for there is defect in it as its ear is very short; now it is dead also. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: By Allah, this world is more insignificant in the eye of Allah than it (this dead lamb) is in your eye

Methods: In a randomized and controlled 12-week intervention stud
Post-traumatic growth after a myocardial infarction: a matter of personality, psychological health, or cognitive coping?
The aim of the present study was to focus on the relative contributions of personality, psychological health and cognitive coping to post-traumatic growth in patients with recent myocardial infarction (MI). The sample consisted of 139 patients who had experienced a first-time acute MI between 3 and 12 months before data assessment. Multivariate relationships were tested by means of Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed that besides the contribution of personality and psychological health, a significant amount of variance in growth was explained by the cognitive coping strategies people used to handle their MI. As cognitive coping strategies are generally assumed to be mechanisms that are subject to potential influence and change, this provides us with important targets for intervention.

Resilience, diabetes-related confidence, and help in diabetes management among Turkish adolescents with type 1 diabetes: A cross-sectional study.
Diabetes resilience is key to adolescents' effective type 1 diabetes management. This descriptive, cross-sectional study examined the relationships between diabetes resilience scores and behavioral and health indicators and individual and family factors in 202 older adolescents (aged 14-18 years) with type 1 diabetes presenting to a pediatric endocrinology outpatient clinic and ward in Türkiye. Data were collected using a background information form and the Diabetes Strengths and Resilience Measure for Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes (DSTAR-Teen). Higher DSTAR-Teen scores were associated with higher maternal education level, absence of sibling diabetes, shorter diabetes duration, at least four blood glucose self-checks daily, and three or fewer hyperglycemic episodes in the last month (p < 0.05). DSTAR-Teen scores negatively correlated with HbA1c (p = 0.001) and postprandial blood gluco…

"All that I've been through has made me who I am": youth conceptualisations of personal recovery in mental health.
Background: Youth is a transitional period from 15 to 24 years involving developmental milestones that may be adversely affected by mental health (MH) concerns. Clinical interventions tend to focus on the reduction or cure of illness-based psychiatric symptoms. However, national and international mental policy focuses on promoting well-being and self-management through personal recovery. The leading framework of personal recovery in adults is CHIME, an acronym used to denote five key processes - Connectedness, Hope, Identity, Meaning and Empowerment. The extent to which CHIME reflects the experience of personal recovery in youth is under-researched, yet the framework often underpins youth mental health services. Method: The present study uses a qualitative methodology to analyse interviews with 16 youth referred for treatment. Interviews focused on the lived experiences of youth recovery…

[Promoting Self-Care and Resilience in High-Stress Nursing Workplaces].
Staffing shortages and excessive workloads are issues faced by nurses worldwide. In the United States, 62% of nurses experience burnout, with burnout rates reaching as high as 75% among nurses under the age of 25 (American Nurses Association, 2024). In Taiwan, recent nursing staff shortages have led to excessive workloads and exhaustion among clinical nurses, presenting a critical challenge for nursing administration and education. Occupational burnout not only affects psychological well-being but also negatively influences clinical decision-making and the ability to cope with stress (Gao et al., 2023). Self-care refers to the attention and care given to one's physical and mental health. Effective self-care involves regularly implementing strategies to prevent stress and anxiety while enhancing overall health and well-being (Kwon, 2023). Resilience is generally defined as a dynamic adapt…

Exploring the drivers of suicide among individuals served by a medical university in Southeastern Iran: a qualitative study.
BACKGROUND: Suicide remains a leading cause of death worldwide and a critical global public health concern. Although the majority of suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), prevention in these contexts is often hampered by limited mental health infrastructure, entrenched stigma, and systemic barriers. In Iran, although the national suicide mortality rate remains comparatively low, a growing trend in suicide attempts—especially among youth—has raised concern. However, little is known about the sociocultural and structural drivers of suicidal behavior in underserved regions such as southeastern Iran. This study aimed to explore the underlying causes of suicide attempts among individuals served by health services affiliated with Bam University of Medical Sciences. METHODS: This qualitative case study was conducted with 54 individuals who had previously attempted suicide.…

Awe Correlates With Resilience to COVID-19 Stressors Independent of Religiosity.
Awe is an emotion defined by an experience of vastness and cognitive accommodation that is unique among other positive emotions in that its cognitive effects are more similar to those of negative emotions. The current study posits that because of its unique cognitive effects, awe may related to resilience to stressors introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was hypothesized that awe would significantly correlate with resilience to COVID-19 even when controlling for religiosity. Religiosity was included in the analyses because of strong support in previous research connecting it to both awe and resilience. Regression analyses revealed that awe and religiosity were both significant correlates of resilience but when placed in the same model, the relationship between religiosity and resilience disappeared. An exploratory mediation analysis was conducted to further explore this result. Implic…

The shock of Awe experience to our soul is more directly on cognitive well-being than affective well-being.
Previous research has demonstrated that the experience of awe can alleviate negative emotions, such as stress related to life and career, consequently enhancing overall happiness. Drawing from the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions, the mechanism through which awe mitigates stress and enhances happiness lies in its capacity to restructure an individual's original cognitive framework and foster a more open-minded approach to problem-solving. This, in turn, facilitates the cultivation of both physical and mental resources, including the enhancement of psychological resilience, thereby empowering individuals to better rebound from adversity and pressure. The study seeks to validate this perspective. In this study, 342 Chinese college students (awe group, pleasant group and neutral group) were investigated to test the effects of awe on cognitive well-being and affective well-being…

The impact of teacher emotional support on learning engagement among college students mediated by academic self-efficacy and academic resilience.
College students' learning engagement not only significantly influences their academic performance but also plays a vital role in their future career development. Ensuring that students maintain high levels of engagement is essential for society's goal of cultivating high-quality talent. Therefore, understanding the key factors that drive student engagement is critical for educators as they develop effective strategies to foster this engagement. This study aims to explore the mechanisms behind the relationship between teachers' emotional support and college students' learning engagement, with a focus on the mediating roles of academic self-efficacy and academic resilience. Accordingly, the following hypotheses are proposed: (1) Teacher emotional support positively predicts learning engagement; (2) Academic self-efficacy and academic resilience serve as mediators between teacher emotional…

Moral resilience and intention to leave: Mediating effect of moral distress.
AimsThis study aims to examine the mediating effect of moral distress on the relationship between moral resilience and the intention to leave. BackgroundMoral distress is a phenomenon that negatively impacts healthcare workers, healthcare institutions, and recipients. To eliminate or minimize the negative effects of moral distress, it is necessary to increase the moral resilience of nurses. Moral resilience is important in protecting against the negative effects of moral distress, such as burnout and turnover intention. In this direction, it is necessary to increase the moral resilience of nurses to reduce negative situations such as turnover intention in nurses. MethodsIt is a descriptive-predictive study. Sociodemographic Information Form, Measure of Moral Distress - Healthcare Professionals, and Rushton Moral Resilience Scale were used to collect data from the nurses. A total of 220 c…

Dietary restriction impacts health and lifespan of genetically diverse mice.
Caloric restriction extends healthy lifespan in multiple species1. Intermittent fasting, an alternative form of dietary restriction, is potentially more sustainable in humans, but its effectiveness remains largely unexplored2-8. Identifying the most efficacious forms of dietary restriction is key for developing interventions to improve human health and longevity9. Here we performed an extensive assessment of graded levels of caloric restriction (20% and 40%) and intermittent fasting (1 and 2 days fasting per week) on the health and survival of 960 genetically diverse female mice. We show that caloric restriction and intermittent fasting both resulted in lifespan extension in proportion to the degree of restriction. Lifespan was heritable and genetics had a larger influence on lifespan than dietary restriction. The strongest trait associations with lifespan included retention of body weig…

The seeds of change: Antecedent variables and their impact in building grit and resilience through outdoor adventure education.
Introduction: This study examines the impact of Outdoor Adventure Education (OAE) on developing grit and resilience in adolescents. Focusing on a United States-based sample collected in 2015, it explores how antecedent variables such as age and gender influence these outcomes, integrating the PERMA model of well-being to investigate underlying mechanisms. Methods: The research employed a cross-sectional design with 350 participants aged 14-18 from various OAE courses. Data collection involved pre/post surveys assessing grit and resilience as experiences through mastery, relatedness, and emotional reactivity. The study utilized established inventories for grit and the Resilience Scales for Children and Adolescents. Results: Findings revealed significant grit, mastery, and relatedness increases following the OAE program. Participants demonstrated enhanced perseverance and passion toward go…

The moderating roles of resilience and social support in the relationships between bullying victimization and well-being among Chinese adolescents: Evidence from PISA 2018.
Bullying victimization can undermine adolescents' well-being. However, few studies have comprehensively investigated the contributions of various victimization forms to well-being and compared which forms were more harmful than others. Evidence on whether resilience and social support moderate such associations is also limited. Using a sample of 12,058 Chinese adolescents in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018, this cross-sectional study aimed to (1) investigate the associations of physical, verbal and relational victimization with well-being; (2) compare the strengths of these associations; and (3) examine the moderating roles of resilience and teacher and parent support in these associations. Results showed that three victimization forms were associated with poorer well-being. Relational and physical victimization were more harmful to most studied well-being …

Trajectories of moral injury and their associations with posttraumatic stress symptoms among recently discharged israeli veterans.
Background: While it is already known that potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) have a deleterious effect on veterans, little is known about the changes in PMIEs subjective appraisals over time, as well as its contribution to changes in psychiatric symptoms. In the current study, we longitudinally assessed subjective appraisals of PMIEs experienced during combat military service and their associations with posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) among recently discharged combat veterans. Method: Participants were 374 veterans who participated in a one-year longitudinal study with three measurement points: T1-one month before discharge from army service, and then again six months and twelve months following discharge (T2 and T3, respectively). Results: Latent Growth Mixture Modeling (LGMM) indicated heterogenic patterns of changes in PMIEs across measurements. The 'resilient' (low an…

Work-related resilience, engagement and wellbeing among music industry workers during the Covid-19 pandemic: A multiwave model of mindfulness and hope.
We surveyed workers in the performing arts sector to explore the role of positive mindsets in facilitating work-related resilience, engagement and reduced stress using retrospective reporting surveys during the Covid-19 work shut down period. Integrating conservation of resources theory with research on metacognitive self-regulation, we controlled for the severity of the Covid-19 impact and negative affect and found that hope (but not mindfulness) predicted professional engagement, resiliency and reduced tension and distress over time. Further, the relationships between hope and outcomes were mediated by positive affect (PA). Mindfulness was not indirectly (via PA) related to outcomes (i.e., engagement, resiliency, job tension, distress) but was directly and negatively related to job tension and distress. These findings suggest that in times of intense stress or adversity, future-oriente…

Reliability and validity of the revised Rushton Moral Resilience Scale for healthcare workers.
Aim: To refine the Rushton Moral Resilience Scale (RMRS) by creating a more concise scale, improving the reliability, particularly of the personal integrity subscale and providing further evidence of validity. Background: Healthcare workers are exposed to moral adversity in practice. When unable to preserve/restore their integrity, moral suffering ensues. Moral resilience is a resource that may mitigate negative consequences. To better understand mechanisms for doing so, a valid and reliable measurement tool is necessary. Design: Cross-sectional survey. Methods: Participants (N = 1297) had completed ≥1 items on the RMRS as part of the baseline survey of a larger longitudinal study. Item analysis, confirmatory factor analyses, reliability analyses (Cronbach's alpha), and correlations were used to establish reliability and validity of the revised RMRS. Results: Item and confirmatory factor…
