1151 to 1175 of 6,178Sense of Coherence in Nurses: A Systematic Review.
Background: Nurses experience high levels of distress due to the nature of their work and workplaces; Antonovsky's salutogenic theory shows that individual and work-related factors can influence human health. The aim of this paper is to analyze the possible correlations with different work-related and individual variables, which influence or are influenced by Sense of Coherence (SOC) and verify the possible use of SOC scales to prevent negative health determinants in workplaces. Methods: Electronic databases were searched with selected studies compared for sample, sample size, study design and basic results. Cross-sectional studies were reviewed for correlations between individual physical and mental health, distress, burnout, job satisfaction and SOC, with intervention studies used to assess the possible impact of training on nurses' SOC. Results: The review found several correlations b…

Mental health during and after protests, riots and revolutions: A systematic review.
Objectives: Protests, riots and revolutions have long been a part of human history and are increasing globally, yet their impact on mental health remains largely unknown. We therefore systematically reviewed studies on collective actions and mental health.
Method: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, PsycINFO and CINAHL Plus for published studies from their inception until 1 January 2018. Study quality was rated using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale.
Results: We identified 52 studies (n = 57,487 participants) from 20 countries/regions. The prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder ranged from 4% to 41% in riot-affected areas. Following a major protest, the prevalence of probable major depression increased by 7%, regardless of personal involvement in the protests, suggestive of community spillover effects. Risk factors for poorer mental health included female sex, lower socioeconomic status,…

Systematic Review of the Relationship Between Autism Stigma and Informal Caregiver Mental Health.
Families play a crucial role in determining the mental health of the autistic individual(s) they are caring for. However, the stigma associated with autism can impair caregiver health. To investigate this, empirical evidence pertaining to stigma's impact on informal caregivers' mental health was systematically reviewed. All twelve included studies (n = 1442 informal caregivers) consistently reported the impact of autism related stigma upon caregiver mental health to be significant, meaningful and complex. A new theoretical framework describing the relationship between stigma and caregiver mental health is constructed. Moderating variables include those both changeable through intervention (e.g. hopelessness, self-esteem, self-compassion) and not changeable (gender, culture, financial burden and time since diagnosis). Implications and recommendations for professionals, interventions and f…

Perspectives of people with aphasia post-stroke towards personal recovery and living successfully: A systematic review and thematic synthesis.
Background: There is increased focus on supporting people with chronic conditions to live well via person-centred, integrated care. There is a growing body of qualitative literature examining the insider perspectives of people with post-stroke aphasia (PWA) on topics relating to personal recovery and living successfully (PR-LS). To date no synthesis has been conducted examining both internal and external, structural influences on living well. In this study, we aimed to advance theoretical understanding of how best to promote and support PR-LS by integrating the perspectives of PWA on a wide range of topics relating to PR-LS. This is essential for planning and delivering quality care.
Methods and findings: We conducted a systematic review, following PRISMA guidelines, and thematic synthesis. Following a search of 7 electronic databases, 31 articles were included and critically appraised u…

Associations between social jetlag and mental health in young people: A systematic review.
Adolescence and early adulthood (collectively categorized as "young people") is a transitional period associated with a number of key physiological, social and psychological changes. Sleep difficulties, notable in this age group, may adversely affect physical and mental health. Of interest is the impact of the natural shift in young people towards a more evening-type sleep pattern (chronotype), whilst social constraints encourage early waking to fit with school/work timings. This leads to a misalignment in sleep timing between weekdays and weekends, known as social jetlag, which may contribute to emerging mental health difficulties seen during this age group. A systematic literature review was undertaken to investigate the association between social jetlag and mental health outcomes. Systematic searching of electronic databases (The Cochrane Library; PsycINFO; CINAHL; Scopus; and PubMed)…
