Pray for them by name, for something they actually need.
Today, make duʿāʾ for your spouse, not the general one. Something specific they are carrying right now: the work thing, the health thing, the worry they mentioned last week. By name. They need not know you did it.
Qur’an and Sunnah
The Prophet ﷺ said: may Allah have mercy on a man who rises in the night and prays, and wakes his wife; and may Allah have mercy on a woman who rises in the night and prays, and wakes her husband. The address is to both, in the same breath, for the same act.
those who pray, ‘Our Lord, give us joy in our spouses and offspring. Make us good examples to those who are aware of You’

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: May Allah have mercy on a man who gets up at night and prays, and awakens his wife; if she refuses, he should sprinkle water on her face. What the research says
For readers without a devotional practice: hold them in mind deliberately and specifically for two minutes, naming what they are carrying.

Prayer for the partner increased forgiveness.

Observed (not self-reported) interaction outcomes; methodologically strongest in the cluster.
Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
One line of research suggests prayer directed at a partner increases forgiveness toward them; the effect appears specific to praying for the partner rather than praying generally.
The longer version
Praying for a spouse does something that praying about a marriage does not. It requires you to have noticed what they are actually carrying, which means the practice depends on attention before it depends on devotion. There is some evidence that praying for a partner increases forgiveness toward them, plausibly because it is difficult to hold a grievance and ask for someone's good in the same breath. The Islamic frame goes further than the finding: this is worship, not technique, and the benefit to the marriage is a consequence rather than the purpose.
