Not all distraction comes from outside. Some of it is a thought that will not leave, circling while you read the same paragraph four times.

That difference matters at an assessment. Being pulled away by everything in the room, and being held in place by an intrusive thought you cannot put down, look identical from outside and call for different help. If yours is more the second sort, describe it that way: what the thought is, and whether you feel you have to do something to make it quieten.

Qur’an and Sunnah

We know what his soul whispers to him: We are closer to him than his jugular vein (Quran 50:16). The whispering thought is not hidden from God, whatever trouble you have getting it into words.

We created man––We know what his soul whispers to him: We are closer to him than his jugular vein––

What the research says

A literature review of mind wandering in ADHD found excessive internal wandering consistently associated with ADHD symptoms, and suggested it captures a form of distractibility that observers and checklists tend to miss. So the inward kind is not imaginary just because nobody can see it. The review draws associations together rather than establishing what causes what.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Two very different things can produce the same blank page, so the description has to be specific.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
