Plenty of people with ADHD do far better in hands-on work than in another four years of sitting in a classroom. Wanting a trade is a reasonable read of your own mind, not giving up.
Work with something finished at the end of the day and feedback as you go tends to fit better than long abstract study whose payoff arrives years later. If you are advising a young person, treat apprenticeships and vocational routes as a first choice rather than a fallback. Where a school offers nothing of the kind, look outside it before anyone concludes this young person cannot learn.
Qur’an and Sunnah
Another of His signs is the creation of the heavens and earth, and the diversity of your languages and colours (Quran 30:22). Difference between people is named there as a sign, which is a fair way to think about minds that need different work.
وَمِنۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ خَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱخۡتِلَٰفُ أَلۡسِنَتِكُمۡ وَأَلۡوَٰنِكُمۡۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتࣲ لِّلۡعَٰلِمِينَ

What the research says
A systematic review of ADHD and procrastination found the two are linked, while noting that how consistent the association is and what drives it remain unclear. Tasks whose reward sits years away are exactly the ones most likely to be put off. The review does not compare vocational and academic routes, so the application here goes beyond what it tested.

Near this one
The first year away at university takes away nearly every bit of structure at once and asks a young person to build their own. It is one of the commonest points at which ADHD finally shows itself.
Much of what matters most in an assessment never comes up unless you ask for it directly. Unplanned pregnancies, money trouble, sackings, near misses in the car: people very rarely volunteer these.
A sharp sense of unfairness is common with ADHD, and it often ends in walking out rather than in raising the matter. The instinct is usually sound. It is the timing that costs you.
