The manual now asks for signs by age twelve rather than age seven, and it added wording that fits adult life, including restlessness felt on the inside.

The older cut-off quietly excluded a familiar group: bright children, or well supported ones, who managed until the demands rose and only visibly struggled at secondary school. Their difficulty was real at seven and had simply not surfaced yet. The wider window also catches the quieter inattentive picture, which tends to show itself later than obvious hyperactivity does.

Qur’an and Sunnah

Who taught man what he did not know (Quran 96:5). Knowledge is described there as given and growing, which is a good way to hold a rule that has already been revised once.

What the research says

A review of gender differences in ADHD found males and females more alike than different overall, while noting that girls are more often diagnosed with the inattentive presentation, which is easier to miss than visible hyperactivity. That quieter picture is exactly the one an early cut-off tends to exclude. The review summarises the literature rather than testing what the change in criteria did.

Why it works

A difficulty stays hidden for as long as the surroundings are still absorbing it.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
