A short acting dose lasts around four to six hours in most people, and bodies vary a great deal around that. Some clear it quickly and feel almost nothing, some clear it slowly and feel every side effect at a small dose.
If a tablet seems to have worn off by mid morning, or a low dose feels overwhelming, report it as a pattern rather than as a failure. It usually points to timing, or a different formulation, or a different molecule, rather than to the whole class being wrong for you. The same person can also handle one molecule easily and another badly, so one poor experience does not close the subject.
This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.
Qur’an and Sunnah
You will not be blamed if you make a mistake, only for what your hearts deliberately intend (Quran 33:5). Trying something that turns out not to suit you is not a fault of yours.
Name your adopted sons after their real fathers: this is more equitable in God’s eyes––if you do not know who their fathers are [they are your] ‘brothers-in-religion’ and proteges. You will not be blamed if you make a mistake, only for what your hearts deliberately intend; God is most forgiving and merciful

What the research says
A systematic review of pharmacogenetics found that genetic variants explain some of the variation in how adults respond to methylphenidate, but not enough to guide prescribing in practice. So the variability is real and partly biological, and there is no test yet that spares anybody the trial and error. Expect finding the right fit to take a few adjustments.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
How fast a body breaks a drug down decides how much is present and for how long, and that differs from person to person.
When not to
Side effects that frighten you deserve a call straight away rather than a wait for the next appointment.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.

The skin patch comes with two things worth knowing before you start. Take it off several hours before bedtime or it keeps delivering and sleep goes, and around one person in six gets a rash bad enough to stop.
Worry about height is one of the commonest reasons families hesitate. The answer is to measure: height and weight plotted at every review, so you are watching an actual line rather than guessing at one.
If you open atomoxetine capsules to mix the contents into food, keep it away from your eyes and wash your hands afterwards. The powder stings badly.
