One of these medicines arrives inactive and has to be broken down by your own body before it does anything at all. That design flattens the rise and removes the spike that misuse depends on.
If fear of addiction is what is holding you back, ask your prescriber about this by name, because formulation is one of the levers they have. Taken as prescribed, swallowed whole, the class carries a low risk of dependence for people who actually have ADHD. Crushing or snorting is what changes that picture, and a medicine that has to be processed by the body first cannot be shortcut in that way.

Qur’an and Sunnah
Do not forbid the good things God has made lawful to you (Quran 5:87). Refusing a permitted remedy out of scruple is addressed there rather than admired.

What the research says
A randomised clinical trial in adults who had both ADHD and cocaine use disorder found extended release mixed amphetamine salts improved ADHD symptoms and cocaine abstinence, which speaks directly to the fear that stimulants must make addiction worse. That was one trial in a particular population and it does not make prescribing in addiction simple. It does show the assumption is not automatically correct.

A slow rise in the brain does not produce the sharp spike that makes a substance rewarding to misuse.
When not to
If you or someone in your household has a history of addiction, say so plainly to the prescriber, since it changes which formulation and which safeguards make sense.

Near this one
Saying that medication helps is not the same as saying everyone should be on it. If you have walked in braced for a push, it is fine to say so at the start.
Some settings simply suit an attention difficulty better. Expectations set out minute by minute, consequences that arrive the same day, a visible ladder to climb: military life often fits for exactly those reasons.
A rash from the patch does not put the same medicine out of reach in tablet form. Plenty of people react to it on the skin and take it by mouth with no trouble at all.
