ADHD tends to surface at the points where life asks for more organising: a new school year with seven teachers, the first term at university, a first job, a promotion into managing other people.
The pattern is always the same. Something that was holding things together is removed, or the amount you have to run yourself goes up, and what was manageable stops being manageable. This is why they were fine last year is not evidence against a diagnosis. If you know a change of that kind is coming, put the supports in before it arrives rather than after the first bad month.
Qur’an and Sunnah
God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear (Quran 2:286). Capacity is the measure being used there, which is exactly what a new stage of life keeps testing.
لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتۡ وَعَلَيۡهَا مَا ٱكۡتَسَبَتۡۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذۡنَآ إِن نَّسِينَآ أَوۡ أَخۡطَأۡنَاۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَيۡنَآ إِصۡرࣰ ا كَمَا حَمَلۡتَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِنَاۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلۡنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِۦۖ وَٱعۡفُ عَنَّا وَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَآۚ أَنتَ مَوۡلَىٰنَا فَٱنصُرۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear: each gains whatever good it has done, and suffers its bad- ‘ Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make mistakes. Lord, do not burden us as You burdened those before us. Lord, do not burden us with more than we have strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelievers.’

What the research says
A systematic review of ADHD in children and young people puts community prevalence at around 5%, with at least a further 5% having substantial difficulties just below the diagnostic threshold. That second group is a good picture of people who cope until the demands change. The review reports prevalence and services rather than tracking who tips over and when.

This is a condition of capacity against demand, so it becomes visible whenever demand rises past what you can carry.

The same mistake costs far more when you have no money behind you. Legal trouble is not handed out evenly, and that sits on top of the earning difficulties ADHD already brings.
The first year away at university takes away nearly every bit of structure at once and asks a young person to build their own. It is one of the commonest points at which ADHD finally shows itself.
When homework takes three hours instead of one, the missing two hours come out of friends, rest and family. That loss is part of the problem, not a side issue.
