Do not stop dead. Give the end of anything energetic a few minutes of winding down, so the change of gear is a routine rather than a demand.

Stopping is a transition, and transitions are where things fall apart for a lot of people. A short unwinding phase, the same one every time, takes the decision out of it. Slower movements, a stretch, a bit of quiet, then out. This is as useful at the end of a run as it is at the end of a class full of eight year olds.

Qur’an and Sunnah

When you are safe again, remember God (Quran 2:239). There is a settling step named for after the pressure lifts, not just for during it.

If you are in danger, pray when you are out walking or riding; when you are safe again, remember God, for He has taught you what you did not know

What the research says

In chronic fatigue syndrome the evidence on exercise is contested. A Cochrane review found exercise therapy reduced fatigue against passive control, while many patients report that pacing, rather than steadily pushing the load up, is what they can sustain. Both sides of that argument point at how you manage the edges of a session, not just the middle.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

A known ending gives you something to follow at the moment when changing gear is hardest.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
