The point of treatment is not a tidier score on a questionnaire. It is fewer accidents, a finished course, work that holds, relationships that survive, a longer and better life.

Symptoms are worth reducing because of what they do downstream, and that is where the goal should be set. It changes what you review, too. Instead of asking whether the ratings moved, you ask whether this year had fewer near misses, whether the job lasted, whether home is less bruising than it was. Sometimes the score barely shifts and the year is transformed, and the reverse happens too.

This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.

Qur’an and Sunnah

Take action! God will see your actions (Quran 9:105). What is looked at is the doing, the actual life, which is a fair place to set the aim of treatment.

Say [Prophet], ‘Take action! God will see your actions- as will His Messenger and the believers- and then you will be returned to Him who knows what is seen and unseen, and He will tell you what you have been doing

What the research says

A randomised, double blind, placebo controlled trial in 445 young adults aged eighteen to thirty assessed atomoxetine on ADHD symptoms and on how people were functioning, treating both as outcomes that mattered. That choice reflects the same view: symptoms are being counted because of what they cost. It is one drug in one age group, so it demonstrates the approach rather than settling what any given person should take.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Symptom counts and daily life do not always move together, so the thing you actually care about is the thing worth measuring.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
