Mindfulness for adult ADHD is promising and thinly researched at the same time. If it helps you, that is worth having. It is simply not yet in the same bracket as medication or practical therapy.

There are only a handful of studies, mostly small, and few of them set mindfulness against another active treatment rather than against not much. That gap matters, because attention training in ADHD has a long history of looking good in the room and not showing up in the week. Try it if you are drawn to it, and keep an honest eye on whether anything outside the practice has actually changed.

This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.

Qur’an and Sunnah

Do not follow blindly what you do not know to be true (Quran 17:36). Being interested in something new sits quite comfortably with waiting to see what it turns out to do.

Do not follow blindly what you do not know to be true: ears, eyes, and heart, you will be questioned about all these

What the research says

A systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression found that mindfulness based interventions show promising effects in ADHD, including on things beyond the core symptoms, while noting the trial base is still modest. Promising and modest are both doing real work in that sentence. It is a fair picture of where this sits, which is worth trying and not yet worth claiming much for.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

A practice can feel good and still leave the things that were going wrong exactly where they were.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
