Four things carry most of the difference within the class: how much it sedates, how much it activates, what it does to weight, and what it does to sex.
Before anything is chosen, write down which of the four you cannot live with. Almost nobody is neutral about all four, and the one you will not tolerate rules out options faster than any theory about mechanism. These differences come from what each drug does besides blocking the serotonin transporter, which is why tablets that are supposedly the same kind of thing vary so much.
Qur’an and Sunnah
'God does not burden any soul with more than He has given it' (Quran 65:7). What can be borne is treated as a real limit and not as a weakness to be argued out of.
and let the wealthy man spend according to his wealth. But let him whose provision is restricted spend according to what God has given him: God does not burden any soul with more than He has given it- after hardship, God will bring ease

What the research says
A meta-analysis of exercise in severe mental illness found that low mood and low energy were the most commonly reported barriers to doing it, while wanting to improve mood was among the strongest motivators. That was about activity rather than tablets. The lesson transfers cleanly: what a person can actually carry decides what happens, so it belongs in the decision from the start instead of arriving as an afterthought.

Why it works
A treatment fails in practice at whatever cost the person was never going to accept.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
SSRIs became the default for four reasons, and being more effective is not among them. They are easier to tolerate, taken once a day, far safer in overdose, and cheap as generics.
When the same medicine keeps turning up for unrelated problems, that usually means one action touches all of them. It does not mean somebody has found a cure for everything.
Discontinuation gets mistaken for relapse constantly, by clients and by clinicians. The mistake runs in both directions and both directions cost something.
