Things posted in ten seconds have got young people excluded from school, and worse. It is worth asking about online conduct in the same routine way you would ask about anything else that could go badly.
Ask what has been posted, what has been sent, what someone would not want read out. Not as an inspection and not as a lecture about permanence, but as part of the ordinary check you would make about who somebody is spending time with. Most of the time the answer is nothing much, and asking calmly on a quiet day is what makes it possible to hear about it early on the day it is not.
Qur’an and Sunnah
Who shun idle talk (Quran 23:3). Restraint in what you put out is listed among the marks of someone doing well, which is a gentler frame than a warning about screenshots.

What the research says
The evidence behind this library does not measure what happens to people after they post something, so there is no study here for that specific risk. What is documented sits nearby: a clinical account of adapting dialectical behaviour therapy for problematic interactive media use came about because clinicians kept seeing disrupted sleep, inattention to schoolwork and social withdrawal among heavy users. Take the risk seriously on clinical report and ordinary observation, not on the strength of a trial.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Online conduct carries real consequences, and consequences that arrive all at once are the ones nobody was watching for.
When not to
If something posted has already led to threats, exclusion or harm, that is a safety matter for the school or the authorities rather than something to manage inside the family alone.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
A whole evening can go into recording an evening. It is worth asking, with no scolding in it, whether you were there for the thing you now have a photograph of.
Check, feel the small relief, put it down, feel the pull again a minute later. If your phone use has that shape, it is running like a compulsion, whatever else it is.
When someone says they did not really mean it, that it was not really them, the temptation is to hear an excuse. It is usually better information than that.
