Short sight is a fair comparison. If you cannot see far, the ship has to come close before it exists for you, and no amount of trying harder brings it into view sooner.

Which is why glasses are the right idea rather than effort. For time, glasses mean anything that puts the future in front of you before it arrives: alarms set days out, a calendar somewhere you cannot avoid walking past, a person who mentions it on Wednesday because you asked them to. Nobody thinks a short sighted person is lazy for wearing glasses, and the same ought to apply here.

Qur’an and Sunnah

Man was created hasty (Quran 21:37). It is stated as a fact about how people are made, which is a better place to start from than shame.

خُلِقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِنۡ عَجَلࣲۚ سَأُوْرِيكُمۡ ءَايَٰتِي فَلَا تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونِ

Man was created hasty: I will show you My signs soon, so do not ask Me to hasten them

What the research says

An experimental study tied the sense of time passing to interoception, the awareness of your own bodily signals, suggesting felt time is built partly out of what the body reports. Separately, preschoolers who had a close relative with ADHD but no diagnosis themselves already showed more difficulty waiting and weaker inhibitory control, which suggests these traits come before a diagnosis rather than out of it. Both are small pieces, and neither tests the practical steps, but they support treating this as a problem of input rather than of attitude.

Why it works

You cannot will an input you do not receive, so the fix has to sit outside you.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
