Instead of imagining consequences in general, remember one actual night you left it too late, and one actual time you started early. Your own memory carries a weight that a general warning never will.
Pick specific ones. The evening the printer failed at eleven, and the morning you had already finished and went out for a walk instead. Bring back what the room looked like and how your body felt, then choose. General advice about consequences slides off because there is no feeling attached to it, and the feeling is the part that moves you.
Qur’an and Sunnah
Those who race toward good things will be the first to get them (Quran 23:61). Your own memory of a time you moved early is a small piece of proof of the same thing.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِي ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِ وَهُمۡ لَهَا سَٰبِقُونَ

What the research says
A meta-regression across behaviour change trials asked which specific ingredients explain the different results, rather than treating whole programmes as equivalent. It supports the wider point that the exact technique matters more than the broad advice. It did not compare recalled memories with imagined ones, so choosing a real memory here is reasoning rather than a finding.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Something you lived through is far more vivid than something you were told about.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
Put the thing you are avoiding early in the day. Anything you place late gets pushed out by whatever the day turns into.
I will remember that. I can do it later. I will work better after I have just checked my email. Three sentences that cost most of us a great deal.
Sometimes the last minute really does produce your best work. Often it produces your worst, and those nights are much easier to forget.
