Paint the room is not a task. Fill the holes, tape the edges, buy the rollers, do one wall. That is four tasks, and each one ends.

A big undivided job sits in the head as one enormous demand, which is why looking at it tires you before you have lifted anything. Write the steps in the order they happen, including the dull one about driving to the shop. Finishing any of them gives you something back, and finishing things is what keeps a person going.

Qur’an and Sunnah

The moment you are freed of one task, work on (Quran 94:7). The verse assumes a life made of finished pieces, each one leading into the next.

What the research says

A meta-analysis of randomised trials looked at which behaviour change techniques improve a daily habit in young adults, testing the ingredients rather than assuming any programme works. The general approach of using defined techniques has support behind it. Those trials were about diet in a particular age group, so breaking up a decorating job is an extension of the idea rather than a tested case.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Steps that end let you feel progress instead of waiting until the very end for any.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
