One way to hold the whole thing: you feel now at full volume and later almost not at all. Putting things off, saying yes too often, spending, jumping in. One pattern rather than four separate faults.

It changes what you go looking for. Not more discipline in each area separately, but ways of making later louder across all of them. A deadline you can see. A cost that lands this evening. Five minutes spent picturing Thursday. It also takes some sting out of the whole business, since one difference in how time registers is a kinder and truer account than a list of character flaws.

Qur’an and Sunnah

'Truly you love this fleeting world' (Quran 75:20) and you 'neglect the life to come' (Quran 75:21). The near thing pulls and the far thing fades, said as a plain description of people rather than a rebuke.

كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ

What the research says

A meta-analytic review confirmed that children and adolescents with ADHD more often choose a smaller immediate reward over a larger delayed one, and that this reward-delay impulsivity is distinct from rapid-response impulsivity. That gives the frame real support, though it comes from pooled studies of young people rather than adults at work. It describes a tendency across groups, not a verdict on any one person.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

What is happening now simply carries more weight than what is coming, and that gap does most of the explaining.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
