A child who is blind to time is not ignoring the deadline. They are living in whatever is happening right now, with no sense that the bell is close or that Friday's test has anything to do with today.
It shows up as reacting to each moment rather than moving through a day with a shape. Adults read that as not caring, and the child usually cannot explain otherwise, because you cannot report on something you do not perceive. Naming it kindly, in front of the child, changes the atmosphere around every other thing you try.

Man was created hasty (Quran 21:37). Living in the moment is described as part of how people are made, and children are the plainest example of it.

What the research says
A review of how episodic foresight develops in young children distinguishes it from planning, from waiting for a reward and from remembering to do things later, and points out that tasks meant to measure it often confuse these. So the capacity to hold a future moment in mind grows over time and is genuinely hard to measure. That is a reason to be careful before reading a child's behaviour as a choice.

For a lot of people with ADHD there are only two times: now, and not now. A deadline on Thursday and one six months out sit in the same box until the day they suddenly become today.
A hundred pounds now, or the same hundred pounds guaranteed at the end of the year. Same money, same certainty. One of them pulls at you and the other does not.
The more you have to look up before you can begin, the further the real time drifts from your guess. Every search is also a door left open, and some of them lead somewhere else entirely.
