Yoga, slow breathing with feedback, neurofeedback and listening programmes are all aiming at the same target. Pick the one you can actually get to and keep doing.

Because they share a mechanism, they are largely swappable. Cost, travel, waiting lists and whether you enjoy it are legitimate grounds for choosing rather than a compromise you should feel bad about. The one you will still be doing in three months is the one that will help you.

Qur’an and Sunnah

'So remember Me; I will remember you' (Quran 2:152). The promise attaches to the returning, not to the particular form the returning takes.

فَٱذۡكُرُونِيٓ أَذۡكُرۡكُمۡ وَٱشۡكُرُواْ لِي وَلَا تَكۡفُرُونِ

So remember Me; I will remember you. Be thankful to Me, and never ungrateful

What the research says

A randomised trial with a hundred and twenty six participants compared physical activity, mindfulness and heart rate variability biofeedback, and found all three reduced stress, anxiety, depression and sleep problems to a comparable degree, with no clear winner. A network meta-analysis of physical relaxation methods in healthcare workers landed in a similar place: several methods including yoga and massage reduced occupational stress, and the differences between them were small. Neither study covers every option on this list.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

They all train the same braking system, so the route matters less than the repetition.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
