The steadiness you are training shows up in more than your mood. Sleep, digestion and how quickly you come down after a fright tend to move together.

Worth knowing when progress on the thing you came for feels slow. People often notice they are sleeping better, or snapping less, before they notice any change in the symptom they were counting. Those are not consolation prizes. They are the same system improving in a place you were not watching.

Qur’an and Sunnah

'He breathed from His Spirit into him; He gave you hearing, sight, and minds' (Quran 32:9). Body and spirit are held in one sentence, which is roughly what this is describing.

Then He moulded him; He breathed from His Spirit into him; He gave you hearing, sight, and minds. How seldom you are grateful

What the research says

A review and meta-analysis found depression associated with reduced heart rate variability even in people without heart disease, linking mood to autonomic regulation directly. A larger systematic review found reduced variability across psychiatric conditions generally, but also showed that psychotropic medication accounts for part of the difference, which is a caution against reading it as a clean marker of illness. The link is real and the interpretation is contested.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

One regulating system sits underneath mood, sleep, digestion and recovery, so it improves in several places at once.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
