Areas › Your body › Moving your body
A movement practice comes apart into pieces: the shapes, the breathing, the noticing. On a day when the whole thing is beyond you, take one piece.
Just the breathing, sitting where you already are, is a practice. So is one stretch held for a minute. Doing a fragment keeps the thread going, and the thread is worth more than the size of any single session. You can add the rest back when you have room for it.
Qur’an and Sunnah
Pray when you are out walking or riding (Quran 2:239). Even prayer is given a shortened form for the times when circumstances will not allow the full one.
If you are in danger, pray when you are out walking or riding; when you are safe again, remember God, for He has taught you what you did not know

What the research says
A Cochrane review of exercise during active cancer treatment found improved quality of life and less fatigue, with the size of the benefit varying by the type of exercise done. People in the middle of treatment were not managing much, and lighter forms still registered. The reviews are honest that what you do and how much of it changes what you get.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Each part is working on something slightly different, so a part on its own still does something.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
Whatever gets you outside and quiet for a stretch of time counts. Fishing, sitting in a hide, weeding, waiting in the car park with the window down.
Hours of nothing, then panic, then three hours locked onto the wrong task, then dread, then a promise that tomorrow will be different. If that is your day, it is a known pattern and not a character flaw.
Movement gives you back some willingness, not just some focus. The problem is often not that you cannot concentrate but that you cannot make yourself care enough to start.
