Five minutesComing and goingBody basedYour body

A child at the nursery door who charms you, then rages, then crumples is running through the whole repertoire in ninety seconds. Nothing has gone wrong yet.

The sequence is ordinary: try connection first, then protest, then collapse when neither works. What decides how the morning lands is what happens next, whether somebody kneels down, names the feeling and stays a minute before turning them towards the sandpit. Adults do the same sequence in slower motion. Being met at the bottom of it is the part that does the work.

Qur’an and Sunnah

'Do not be afraid, I am with you both' (Quran 20:46). What is offered first is company, not an instruction to stop being frightened.

قَالَ لَا تَخَافَآۖ إِنَّنِي مَعَكُمَآ أَسۡمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ

He said, ‘Do not be afraid, I am with you both, hearing and seeing everything

What the research says

A meta analysis of the standard laboratory social stress test found it reliably raises cortisol in most healthy people, and that the size of the rise depends heavily on the details of how the test is run. Responding physically to social pressure is normal machinery, and the setting shapes how big the response is. That work used adults in a laboratory, so read the nursery door as an illustration rather than as the thing measured.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

The drop is normal. Having someone to come back up with is what turns it into an ordinary bad morning rather than something that sticks.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
