Areas › Your body › Grounding and settling
When you sit down to breathe, notice your pelvis. Tucked hard under or tipped hard forward both squeeze the breath; somewhere in the middle lets the diaphragm move.
Rock gently forward and back a few times and stop where the breath feels easiest, rather than aiming for a posture that looks correct. You will usually notice the difference in how far down the breath seems to travel. It is a small adjustment that makes every other breathing practice work better, and finding it takes about twenty seconds.

What the research says
An integrative review of heart rate variability explains how closely breathing pattern and heart rhythm are tied, and why that variability is read as a sign of the body's capacity to adapt. The link between a neutral pelvis and easier breathing is anatomical common sense rather than something this review tested. So the breathing part is well grounded and the posture part is reasonable inference.

Why it works
Where your pelvis sits changes how much room the diaphragm has, and the diaphragm is what makes a full breath possible.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.

If you are going to try a mindfulness course, give it the full eight weeks before deciding. Expect a real but moderate change rather than a different life.
Say it plainly whenever you teach anything: the way I am showing you this is not the way it has to be done. Change it until it works for you.
Five minutes chosen for the state you are actually in beats twenty minutes of open sitting. Pick the one labelled stressed, or cannot sleep, or about to walk into work.
