Areas › Your body › Touch and bodywork
Words for feelings tend to arrive after the body has been noticed, not before. Find the sensation first, then see what it wants to be called.
Try it in that order: tight across the chest, hot in the face, heavy behind the eyes. Then a name, if one comes, and no forcing if it does not. People who can do this usually find other people easier too, because the same skill that reads your own insides is the one that guesses at someone else's. It builds slowly, from the body upwards.
Qur’an and Sunnah
'he turned away from them, saying, Alas for Joseph!' (Quran 12:84). Ya'qub's state has a shape and then a name, said aloud, and the Qur'an records both.
and he turned away from them, saying, ‘Alas for Joseph!’ His eyes went white with grief and he was filled with sorrow

What the research says
Research on the orbitofrontal cortex shows it represents the reward value of pleasant touch alongside taste and facial expression, meaning touch is processed as an emotional signal rather than plain sensory data. Bodily experience and feeling are handled in overlapping territory. That is a claim about brain organisation, not evidence that noticing sensations improves how well you read other people.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
You cannot put words to a state you have not yet felt.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
If several medications have failed, ask whether anyone else in the family had the same experience. A pattern of non response runs in some families.
Talking is not the only door in. Exercise, massage, acupressure, yoga, tai chi and the rest go at the body first and let the mind follow, which is the opposite direction from most therapy.
Tap the fleshy outside edge of your hand and say something like: even though I feel this, I accept myself completely. Three times, in whatever words are actually true for you.
