Before you read on

Read this first. Some of what gets called a difficult parent is not difficult, it is dangerous, and this course is the wrong one for it. If you are frightened of a parent or a relative, if you have been threatened, if someone is holding your passport or your documents, if you are being pressured into a marriage or threatened over travel or marriage, if someone controls your money so that you cannot leave, if a child in the family is being harmed, or if you are having thoughts of not wanting to be alive, then stop here. Go to the course called When home is not safe, and reach a service today. Forced marriage and honour based harm need a service that handles exactly that, not a general counselling line. Nothing here is scored, and nobody is being told what is happening to them.

Lesson 6 of 6

How to tell this has outgrown reading

There is no line painted on the floor, but there are markers, and none of them says anything about your faith.

You are frightened of a parent or a relative, or you have been threatened.

There is any threat attached to marriage, to travel, or to your passport, or you are being pressured into a marriage.

Your money is controlled, or somebody else holds your documents.

Anything physical is happening now, or a child in the family is being harmed.

You are having thoughts of not wanting to be alive, or of harming yourself.

You cannot function. You are not sleeping, or you are not managing work or study.

You are drinking or using something to get through contact with them.

Any one of these is a reason to reach somebody today. Not because you are weak, and not because your family is worse than you thought, but because those are the situations a set of lessons cannot hold.
