There is one more input, and it comes from outside the loop.

Your siblings. The aunts. The family friend who has known you since you were seven. Someone at the masjid. They arrive at the point where you are refusing something, and that is the only part of the loop they can see.

They see the compliance you withheld. They do not see the eleven years. So they say the obvious thing, which is that she is your mother, and they say it kindly, and it lands on the exact spot that is already sore.

They are not being cruel. They are working from a single frame of a film they have not watched.
