Three. Culture, and what your parent is carrying

Much of what gets presented to you as religion is culture wearing religion's clothes, and the two get separated in lesson three rather than here.

The other half of this is your parent's own history. Many parents who are harmful were raised harshly themselves, in a hard place, without a word for any of it, and they are doing what was done to them without ever having decided to.

That explanation is true and it is worth knowing, and here is the limit on it. It explains. It does not oblige you to absorb the consequences indefinitely. Understanding why a thing happens is not the same as agreeing to keep being in the room for it.

Holding both of those at once is the adult position, and it is uncomfortable, which is why people usually pick one.
