They are recognisable pieces of trauma focused therapy, they are done at a pace agreed with a trained person who is watching what happens to you, and assembled at home they commonly make things worse rather than better. The second option is different in kind. It happens once, it is chosen by you, it has a clear end, and what it changes is not your memory but whether the loss exists anywhere outside you.
