Areas › Focus, starting, and ADHD › What ADHD actually is
When you meet a confident claim about ADHD, look it up before passing it on. A search of recent papers, limited to the last few years, takes a couple of minutes and often changes the picture.
Free scholarly search engines will show you abstracts without an institutional login. Two habits do most of the work: filter by date so you are seeing where the field is now, and notice what kind of study you are reading, since one small trial and a systematic review do not carry the same weight. It is also a good habit to hand to a parent who is being sold something.
Qur’an and Sunnah
How can those who know be equal to those who do not know? Only those who have understanding will take heed (Quran 39:9). Checking before repeating is a small form of that.
What about someone who worships devoutly during the night, bowing down, standing in prayer, ever mindful of the life to come, hoping for his Lord’s mercy? Say, ‘How can those who know be equal to those who do not know?’ Only those who have understanding will take heed

What the research says
A scientometric study mapped 28,381 ADHD publications to show which themes have dominated the field and which have been comparatively neglected. It is a picture of what has been studied rather than of what is true, which is exactly the distinction to keep in mind while searching. Volume of publication is not the same thing as strength of evidence.
Cortese S, Sabé M, Chen C, Perroud N, Solmi M. (2022). Half a century of research on Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A scientometric study.. Neuroscience and biobehavioral reviews doi
Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Claims travel faster than the evidence behind them, and a short check tells you which of the two you are holding.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
When you explain ADHD to someone who does not have it, describe the effort rather than the outcome. Not that the form is unfinished, but what twenty minutes of trying to fill it in actually took out of you.
A sharp sense of unfairness is common with ADHD, and it often ends in walking out rather than in raising the matter. The instinct is usually sound. It is the timing that costs you.
When homework takes three hours instead of one, the missing two hours come out of friends, rest and family. That loss is part of the problem, not a side issue.
