With ADHD, self-management usually runs a few years behind the birthday. Expecting a child to handle what other children their age handle sets you both up to fail.
A rough working guide many clinicians use is to expect around two thirds of the chronological age for this kind of self-regulation, so an eighteen year old heading off to university may organise like a capable fifteen year old. Use it to set expectations rather than as a ceiling. It applies to the emotional side too: the size of the reaction is part of what is running late, not proof of a spoilt child.
Qur’an and Sunnah
God wishes to lighten your burden; man was created weak (Quran 4:28). Fitting what is asked to what a person can actually carry is the pattern being described there.
يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُخَفِّفَ عَنكُمۡۚ وَخُلِقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ ضَعِيفࣰ ا

What the research says
A meta-analysis found that difficulty regulating emotion is a substantial part of ADHD related impairment, alongside the executive difficulties that cognitive accounts emphasise. That supports treating outsized reactions as part of the condition. The two thirds figure itself is a clinical rule of thumb rather than something this evidence establishes.

Why it works
The skills for holding yourself steady arrive later here, so demands pitched at the birthday land above what is actually available.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.

Use the established rating scales and a proper developmental history rather than working from the impression someone makes in a first meeting. What you see in a room is a small and unrepresentative sample.
A forgotten item in a bag is not a plan. Rules that treat the presence of something as proof of intent fall hardest on people who cannot reliably remember what is in their pockets.
The name is a little misleading. What tends to be hard is not seeing or understanding a task, it is getting your brain to switch on for something it finds no reward in, and to switch off from something it loves.
