The name is a little misleading. What tends to be hard is not seeing or understanding a task, it is getting your brain to switch on for something it finds no reward in, and to switch off from something it loves.

You may have noticed you can lose four hours to something that grips you and then be unable to start a ten minute form. That gap is the thing itself, not evidence that you were being lazy about the form. It often helps to stop asking why you cannot concentrate and start asking what would give this task enough charge to begin: a deadline, a person sitting with you, music, a timer.

Qur’an and Sunnah

The ways you take differ greatly (Quran 92:4). Your way of coming at work is one of those ways, and naming it plainly is not a complaint against how you were made.

What the research says

A meta-analysis pooled a lot of scattered brain imaging work in ADHD and identified a consistent pattern of differences in brain function during tasks. The individual studies disagreed with each other quite a bit, which is why pooling was needed, so read this as a broad pattern rather than a scan that would explain your particular Tuesday.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Your brain gives effort to whatever it registers as worth the effort, and in ADHD that registering runs low for dull tasks.
