There is no age at which finding out stops being worth it. People have been diagnosed in their eighties and described it as the first explanation that ever fitted.
A late diagnosis will not give back the jobs or the years, and it is fair to grieve those. What it does is rewrite the story: not a person who kept failing at things others found easy, but a person who was carrying something nobody had named. That alone tends to lift a weight, and it can still open the door to treatment and to adjustments that make the years ahead easier.
Qur’an and Sunnah
How can those who know be equal to those who do not know? (Quran 39:9). Coming to know what you have been living with is treated there as a real gain, whenever it arrives.
What about someone who worships devoutly during the night, bowing down, standing in prayer, ever mindful of the life to come, hoping for his Lord’s mercy? Say, ‘How can those who know be equal to those who do not know?’ Only those who have understanding will take heed

What the research says
A European consensus statement from a large expert group holds that adult ADHD is common, persists into old age, and remains underdiagnosed and undertreated in many countries. Persisting into old age is the part that matters here, since it means an older adult asking the question is not an odd case. A consensus statement carries expert agreement rather than the weight of a single trial.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
A name for a lifelong pattern moves the explanation from your character to your wiring, and that changes how you carry the past.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.

Anything that gives a quick lift, a bet, a purchase, speed, a risk taken late at night, pulls harder when your brain is short of reward. The workable move is not more willpower, it is putting friction between you and the thing.
With ADHD, self-management usually runs a few years behind the birthday. Expecting a child to handle what other children their age handle sets you both up to fail.
Retirement takes away the timetable, the colleagues and often the person who kept the diary, and for someone with ADHD that can be the point where everything unravels.
